Tatum's Keynote Address

"It's our job and our time to get into those areas. To start occupying those spaces. To diversify these spaces. To make it so that people who look like us feel comfortable in these spaces. Feel welcome and accepted." Da'vion Tatum.

The keynote speech delivered during the African Writers Initiative award giving ceremony was truly impactful and inspirational. Da'vion Tatum eloquently emphasized the idea that no human is limited, encouraging everyone to break free from self-imposed barriers and societal constraints. He passionately addressed the issue of taking up space as a black person, highlighting the importance of embracing one's identity and cultural heritage without fear or hesitation.

About the keynote speaker

Da'Vion Tatum is a student at Harvard University with a primary focus in Bioengineering and Anthropology. He aims to forge a career at the intersection of Engineering, Medicine, and Law as a way to spearhead advancements in both scientific innovation and social justice! His interdisciplinary aspirations allow him to make connections between multiple fields of study as he yearns to use these three disciplines to revolutionize medical procedure and bring about equitable health policy reform.

 

Da'Vion is a published author of the book, Thriving In My Own Lane and has founded a nonprofit called The A1 Foundation_ A nexus of community based initiatives rooted in compassion and driven by hope where Active change is their number 1 mission.
